What is happiness? Is it wealth? Health? Family? Friends? Your job? Love? Security? Promise for the future? Maybe it’s a little of all of these? Maybe you can be happy with nothing more than your spiritual belief?
Peace of mind and contentment of heart are products of happiness. Can they be bought; you know the answer is no. Happiness is earned by the way you live your life, the way you treat other people, the satisfaction you get from doing your best at everything you attempt, and how these things give cause for other people to respect you as the person who resides within you.
Love of money will not bring happiness your way. Love of your fellow man will put you on the right path to happiness. What is in your heart and how you allow it to influence your actions will go a long way toward your happiness. How you deal with adversity defines your inner self, your character, your strength, and your spiritual faith.
If you lead your life for others to see the good that you do, you are lacking the gift of love that makes those that have it good people. If you see your every act and your every thought as if in a mirror that reminds you of what you should see within yourself, then and only then will you see the real you.
If you are to find lasting happiness, you must have an objective conscience that keeps you on the straight and narrow path of life. You must have a caring soul and you must take good care of your soul, if you are to find and retain lasting happiness. Is all of this effort in seeking happiness an easy feat? That depends upon you. Will it be worth your efforts? If you answer no, then you have much work to do. If you answer yes, you are well on your way to happiness.
Happiness is a smile, spoken words that show you truly care, a sincere thank you note, a gift every so small for someone’s act of kindness, and a helping hand only because it’s needed.
Be kind today, be happy, and make someone else happy.
Irresponsible power is inconsistent with liberty, and must corrupt those who exercise it.
John Calhoun (1782-1850)
