On July 5, 2011 twelve people somehow judged Casey Marie Anthony to be “Not Guilty” of any of the three charges brought against her by the State of Florida as related to the death of her then (2008) 2-year old daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony. I’m not going to address the many complex legalities associated with this human tragedy but I am going to cross the line and discuss the spiritual aspects.
I believe in God and I know He will be the final Judge of mankind individually and collectively. It is important for each of us to acknowledge this fact and let God do His work without our meddling and interference. Miss Anthony will in due time receive God’s judgment and any punishment He deems deserved by her.
What comes to my mind is the ever constant comparison of good and evil that stares us in the face every day of our lives. It seems that all too often we see good over-shadowed by evil, or evil winning over good. I know that God is all-powerful and not for one minute do I question His power as compared to Satan, the evil one. I wonder if God sometimes entertains the idea of using Satan’s evil deeds as an opportunity to reverse the deeds of Satan by showing all of mankind that God is all powerful and He can and will show His supremacy by way of judgment for all of the world to bear witness. Can you imagine how shockingly inspiring it would be for mankind to see God’s punishment before their very eyes and understand why God performed His final judgment? I can only wonder if thousands, or millions, of people would be convinced that they never had any reason to doubt God? What would it take to punish and demonstrate a victory of good over evil?
A lowly sinner, such as I, might suggest a scenario such as:
Casey Marie Anthony walking out of the Orlando Courthouse Thursday morning, July 7, 2011, a free woman after being judged not guilty of crimes associated with the death of her beautiful daughter Caylee. Just as she exits the courthouse a thick, dark cloud begins to form in the sky above her while rumbles of thunder are heard by all who’ve gathered to witness the freedom of one who is obviously guilty. She smiles her evil smile at the crowd as if to say, “I won, you lost”. Suddenly a bolt of lightning comes out of the dark cloud and strikes dead Casey Marie Anthony. As her smoldering body lies on the sidewalk void of any life, we realize God has judged, God has spoken, God has demonstrated Good over evil.
